Light's AR module supports complex multi-entity structures common in global enterprises. This article covers managing customers, invoices, and payments across multiple legal entities and currencies.

In a multi-entity setup:
Customers exist at the company level but are assigned to specific entities for invoicing.
Create the customer at the company level (visible to all entities)
Open the customer record
Navigate to Entity Assignment
Click Assign to Entity
Select the entity
Optionally, set Entity-Specific Details:
Click Assign
Customers can be assigned to multiple entities if they do business with each.
Some details can vary by entity:
Set entity-specific overrides when assigning customers.
When creating an invoice:
If a customer is assigned to only one entity, the entity is pre-selected.
When one entity sells to another (internal transfer):
Intercompany transactions help consolidate and eliminate during period close.
Open or create an invoice
Select Customer and Entity
Light defaults to entity's functional currency
Click Currency to override
Select a foreign currency
Light calculates the FX rate:
Amounts in the foreign currency are displayed
GL entries record both local and foreign amounts
Override default FX rates:
Use overrides to match customer's local exchange rate or historical rates.
As FX rates move, realized/unrealized gains/losses occur:
Navigate to FX Adjustments in AR
Light identifies invoices with FX exposure
Review calculated adjustments
For invoices you're about to settle:
Click Post FX Adjustment
GL entries record realized gain/loss to FX GL accounts
View combined AR across all entities:
Navigate to Reports > AR Summary
Click Consolidation
Select scope:
Light shows:
Export to Excel for further analysis
View and manage intercompany AR:
Navigate to Intercompany Transactions
Filter to AR type (invoices from one entity to another)
View matched pairs showing:
Click into a pair to view GL entries in both entities
A customer with credit from one entity may be invoiced by another:
Open the customer
Navigate to Credit Balance
View credits by issuing entity
When creating a new invoice in a different entity:
Approve cross-entity credit applications if required by your policies
Different entities have different tax requirements:
Navigate to AR Settings > Tax Configuration
For each entity, set:
When invoicing, Light applies the correct entity's tax rules
E-invoice submissions are made on behalf of the correct entity
